Wholesale prices rise at an 18 percent rate in March

The Federal government reports a 1.4 percent March rise in the Producer Price Index to 238.2, an 18.2 percent compounded annual rate. Food costs edged up while energy soared nearly 110 percent annually. Excluding food and energy, core finished goods rose 0.5 percent, with energy up 7.2 percent. Gasoline and home heating oil climbed, and crude materials fell 2.2 percent.

Park Towne to become condos in Cedar Rapids by Sun Development

Sun Development of Los Angeles buys Park Towne and North Towne in northeast Cedar Rapids for conversion to condominiums. Renovation of about 2 million dollars starts mid April. 184 unit North Towne and 408 unit Park Towne sold for over 13 million combined. Leases honored. tenants may renew monthly. purchases offered to current tenants. Prices range 25 000 to 40 000 with government guaranteed loans. Tenants who spent money decorating receive purchase credits. Ownership changes to conform to federally insured housing standards.

Jobless rate rises to 6.2 percent in March
