The Cedar Rapids Baskin Robbins at Center Point Road NE closed last month and became Ashby’s Sterling under Kristin and Andrew Cernin. Owner Dean Arneson sold his other Baskin Robbins stores, planning conversion while noting franchise demands and high costs. Baskin Robbins remains only in Des Moines and Ankeny in Iowa. Ashby’s Sterling offers over 50 flavors and is a Tom Davis & Sons Dairy Co. division.

March was cold and dry with mean temperatures 4.2 degrees below normal and 1.20 inches of precipitation. Planting for 2002 corn starts mid April, soybeans follow, oat acres 12 percent planted, hay and roughage mostly adequate.
