Majority Leader Robinson recessed the Senate until Monday as debate raged over Byrnes amendment to curb sitdowns in the textile and bituminous sectors.
AP reports Omaha installs nickel meters in downtown areas but coins drop below street level before installation. City officials note coins are going to waste as coin boxes are not yet in place and meters await operation. Mayor Dan Buller says nickels are not being recovered until meters are removed and sidewalks torn up.
Washington AP The House Agriculture Committee will vote Tuesday to reconsider its prior rejection of a proposal for the government to buy farms for resale to tenants The move followed a Senate subcommittee approval of a tenancy bill that includes a land buying program Representative Nelson Democrat Missouri who helped draft the tenancy measure said he expects the provision to be reinstated The committee's move comes as momentum grows for expanding farm tenancy programs across the administration agenda.
Walter Rhodes intended to kill his wife before her death on February 9, 1937, the state's key witness testified in the first degree murder trial in Iowa City. Mrs Myron, a housekeeper at the Rhodes home, said Rhodes admitted planning to kill his wife earlier and expressed remorse the accident happened when it did.
Special to The Gazette reports Shirley Carley ten daughter of Mr and Mrs E H Carley Fayelta is not expected to live after an auto accident two miles north of Oelwein around 430 pm Friday. Shirley's sister Maurine and parents and four women from West Union were hospitalized after another car went out of control and collided with Carley's car which veered into a ditch.
Morris Hanley, 27, Minneapolis, fled after two automobile crashes and a police gunfire barrage spanning Kenosha to Zion and Waukegan. He was captured in Illinois after a chase ending with a crash at a filling station and later found on the O. J. Lehman estate trying to take another car. He is jailed awaiting investigation of his activities.
In Oakland California a fight erupted Friday between about 100 WPA workers armed with picks and shovels and roughly 200 WPA strikers seeking to force them from a water pipe trench. Police used tear gas bombs to break up the riot. two men were injured and no arrests were reported.

The case claimed a refrigeration unit installed at the Amber creamery fell on the boy during a March 11 1936 incident.
In Albia Iowa a 3 day old child born Tuesday to Henry and Mrs Johnston is held in an incubator in a Des Moines hospital. Doctors estimate birth weight around 10 ounces, possibly challenging Jacqueline Benson of Chicago who weighed 12 ounces as the world’s smallest baby.
