C R Woman Faces Stolen Property Charge

Connie Jo Schutte 23 of 3320 Wilson avenue SW charged with receiving stolen property. She allegedly possessed a television taken from the Becky Conrad residence at 1231 Rockford road SW reported March 25. She was released to the custody of adult corrections services Thursday.

Suit Filed Over Marion School Gym Mishap In 1974

A $260,627.85 suit alleges Ricky John Frasher injured his right arm in a Mentzer elementary gym class when he ran into a wall. The Marion Independent School District is named in Linn District Court for negligence citing inadequate padding and activity planning. The complaint seeks $250,000 for the boy, plus $627.85 medical expenses and $10,000 for loss of services by his father Robert Frasher.

Bartel Plans Resignation From Johnson County Board

Johnson County Supervisor Chairman Richard Bartel said he will resign by July 1 citing pressure from political circles and a conflict with his safety director role at Woodward State Hospital. He noted legal expenses drove the need for two full time jobs and that a social services commissioner ordered the choice.

City warns of two street construction projects

City officials announced two street closings starting Monday. East lanes of Kirkwood boulevard SW from Devonwood to Miller avenues will be closed for three weeks while west lanes stay open. Sixth street SW near Fifteenth avenue starts at 7 a.m. and finishes in one week with westbound trucks detoured south on Ninth street.

Struck by Car, C.R. Girl Remains Serious

A 17 year old girl Jennifer R Kohl of 1112 Clifton street NE was hit by a northbound car on Council street NE near 4 p m and remained in serious condition at St Luke s hospital. Ralph Daniel Kopecky 28 of Marion drove the car. Police noted 31 feet of skid marks and no charges filed.

Iowa man charges dropped in marijuana possession case

Charges were dismissed against 24 year old Richard D. McCarty of Cedar Rapids in a marijuana possession case filed March 23. Co defendant Steven J. Wisehart remains charged. both were arrested while riding in a car on Center Point Road NE.

Pair Fined on Larceny Counts

Two Cedar Rapids men pled guilty to petty larceny for stealing pizzas from Lil Jenney s on February 16. Daniel L Williams 18 and Edward L Koehn 19 were fined 35 dollars each in Iowa district court after the nighttime larceny charge was reduced by the county attorney s office.

Another Charged in Car Tipping Spree

A 17 year old boy was charged with malicious damage in seven tipped over vehicle reports. Police had already charged five other 17 year olds in connection with the incidents reported Sunday. The latest suspect was released to his parents.

Embezzlement Case Deferred Sentence For Prairie High Former Secretary

Regina P. Hatcher, 3000 J Street SW, pled guilty to gross fraud and embezzling $89 from the College Community school district. A deferred sentence until March 9, 1978 was imposed with probation by Magistrate Brent Hardstad in an Iowa district court.

Iowa House OKs three year terms for incorrigible offenders

Des Moines AP The Iowa House approved mandatory three year prison terms for incorrigible offenders 66-21 with judges allowed to impose more than the minimum. The panel rejected 47-41 a 15 year minimum for dangerous offenders. The 427 page criminal code revision defines incorrigible offenders as three time felons for third conviction and sets maximum to 15 years. Rep. Jack Woods proposed three year minimum and up to six years by the judge.

Two Arrested On Drunk Driving Charges In Linn County

Linn deputies and state troopers arrested two men on drunk driving charges Thursday evening. E Franke 21 Vin ton was stopped on Highway 94 south of Palo for allegedly driving 83 mph and faced marijuana possession charges. Tommie Shinault Jr 26 of 1008 Eleventh Avenue SE was arrested after erratic driving on Sixth Street SW and charged with no driver's license and a warrant for pointing a gun at another.

Deputies Probe Linn Crimes

Deputies investigated thefts reported in Linn County. Sandra Davidson and Barbara O Deen alleged items vanished from a shared Blairs Ferry road residence including a 100 television and a 427 stereo during Davidson moving out on Thursday. C Bruce Sigler reported a 450 television theft and Robert Martin a 265 rifle and 188 scope from a vehicle in Waukbeck.
