Deaf Iowa student wins state Poetry Out Loud in ASL
D. J. Meyer, 17, of Iowa City, won the Poetry Out Loud state contest performing in American Sign Language and will compete nationally in Washington, D. C. Meyer chose poems by Edwin Arlington Robinson and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, using ASL expression rather than spoken word to convey meaning.

North Liberty approves 105000 in Quail Ridge Park upgrades
The North Liberty City Council approved 105000 in renovations to Quail Ridge Park a 10 acre site at the west end of Zeller Street to upgrade the playground and baseball diamond by fall. An additional 5000 for installation raises the total to 80000 with new equipment a double arch swing rock climbing section and a tunneled slide. The baseball diamond gains new fencing dugouts and benches with volunteers from North Liberty Youth Baseball and Softball welcoming the changes.

Central City man Martin Wilkinson 63 faces first degree murder and felon with firearm in shooting of Gregory O Hare 47 of Cedar Rapids on August 24. Astra A 7 handgun tied to the homicide was found at Wilkinson home. A suppression hearing is set for April 26.
