IRS To Start Visiting Meat Firms Monday
The Internal Revenue Service will visit large and small meat retailers this week to help compute and post ceiling prices. Iowa stabilization manager Strother Scott said base prices must be posted by April 9 and toll free lines will handle inquiries and complaints. About 250 staff will be assigned to enforcement with eight more added to state offices including Cedar Rapids. Scott emphasized retailer assistance in calculating base prices and posting, followed by checks for compliance and violation reporting.

Short Pork Supply Looms as Nixon Meat Ceiling Edict Sails In
Eastern Iowa retailers and packers report little official guidance on Nixon meat price ceilings. Foremost concern centers on price structure, base prices, and adjustments for ship- ment size and freight. Hog markets swing wildly, producers restrain marketing, and a looming nationwide boycott adds pressure as retailers prepare ceiling signs and post new prices.
