Ward Davies To Pilot Cars in 500 Trials
INDIANAPOLIS Ind Two veterans each with three years of prior experience and two rookies were named to pilot cars for the 38th annual 500 mile race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on May 31 with 45 entries. Rodger Ward of Los Angeles and Jimmy Davies of Pacoima Calif will pilot the Pat Clancy Special and the Dr Sabourin Special respectively while rookies Eddie Russo and Larry Crockett must pass a 10 mile driver test before attempting to qualify. Ward and Davies will be teammates for Federal Engineering Detroit Specials, all four cars are four cylinder non supercharged rear drive.

Eisenhower signed a bill halving the tax on some admissions and removing it on others. Briggs set a price range for Detroit seats from 65 cents to 2.30. Dodgers cut bleacher prices from 60 to 50 cents. Other clubs did not announce actions. A refund option lets buyers recoup half of the 20 percent tax on advance tickets. Milwaukee Braves halted all advance sales pending government refunds and ticket reprinting requirements.
