A sprawling, rhymed ramble weaves jokes about income tax and Uncle Sam, Roman lore, and an imagined political year. It blends cultural asides with December through November motifs, touching on money, elections, and social satire.
The shooting affray between Harvey Raby and Joe Holmes on October 15 led to a preliminary hearing before Judge Tubbs. Holmes described a land dispute and a confrontation at Holmes ranch ending with gunfire. Raby claimed Holmes fired at him first and wounded him.
A. J. Johnson was arrested by night watchman Messenger for passing bogus checks and obtaining goods under false pretenses. He posed as a member of Johnson Bros. Co a Burlington grading firm, bought goods at Merritt Wm Gerlach and Abbott Winslow pharmacies and a livery stable, with checks drawn on Casper National and First National banks. Goods were recovered and Johnson is held in jail as investigators note no such firm exists.
Rev 8 B Long of the Congregational Sunday School Society conducted sermons in Salt Creek Wile week and led to the establishment of a Sunday School. Officers elected include Superintendent Jessie Rhodes, Assistant Supt Mrs W S Peck, Secretary W B Bridges, Treasurer Elsie Rhodes, with teachers Rita Levis Jennie Rhodes and others.
Francs Brown, manager of the Midwest store, did a business trip to Wo Casper on Lie Lind. Duntay, Moser, Brown, W. Sumner and Taylor visited Kaycee for the town opening and the dance last Friday. Lea bought a suit and overcoats along with underwear and sweaters. Dr G J Miller and Mr Miller returned to Salt Creek last week in a new auto from Denver. Fred Hileman, formerly Midwest bookkeeper, notes business is strong and many Salt Creek friends would approve.

William Sanford was convicted of forging the name of D. N. Spess to a $700 check and received a sentence of 15 to 18 months in the State penitentiary at Rawlins. Downey, convicted of burglary, drew the same 15 to 18 month term. Sheriff Sheffner departs today with the prisoners for Rawlins.
The Douglas oil field shows rising interest with eight companies now operating in the district. Wilcox & German joined with a single rig and holdings in Arenoingasin. Locals expect the Frenning Caste district to become the next major field.
A group of Hoya Arch Masons traveled to Thermopolis Saturday to aid in the Royal Arch chapter installation. The Burlington road trip included W. R. Johnson C. E. Townsend Oscar Hirstand J F Shaffer Peery Chwderoy Patrick Sullivan J M Svendsen and Dr G T Morgan who returned Monday after hospitality from Thermopolis residents.
Martin Mc Grath purchased the interest of partner John Be Higgins in Higgins and McGrath of Thermopolis. The store will continue under the old name with McGrath as manager from Glenrock. The Thermopolis Record notes this firm’s long history as pioneer mercantile in the Big Horn basin.
A 200 acre Riverton logging complex near Miverton is now assured with riverfront land bought from the Indians. Workers began building a river landing on the Big Wind River as contracts with railroad firms promise millions of men supplied. The company plans a large plant to prevent decay and employ many workers.
A half block of ground owned by Eugene McCarthy north of the railroad round house is selected as the brewery site. A company of Omaha men will build the plant and McCarthy will sell when ready. W. Metzger, arranging details, says a local stock sale is under way and organization of the company is near completion.
Mr and Mrs Roy Hook and Mr and Mrs Howard Hook were honored at a farewell dance in Temple hall Douglas Monday evening. Thirty two couples attended with Beatrice Rollins and Helen Callin of Glenrock as out of town guests. The event featured cards dancing and refreshments before the party broke up about 1 o'clock as the hosts prepared to begin their new life in California.
Department of the Interior General Land Office in Washington issues guidance dated October 1 1913. Applications to reinstate canceled entries should be filed in the district land office where the lands are located to ensure proper notation and notice to affected parties. Commissioner Ulay Allman signs the order.
The Pures claimed Mrs Rolla Loyd bought a lot and would erect a house while Rolla denies being bent. The Pumas’ text confuses Mire with My and questions the new home’s oversight. Mrs John Moyers traveled to Glenrock last weekend and returned Monday.
