Riot at Bucknum Averted by Officials and Deputies
A near riot at Bucknum between two factions of negro laborers working for Burlington was stopped by Deputy Sheriff D W Tripeny, special deputy Walter Breen, County Attorney W C Wilson, and County Commissioner A G Cheney. About 20 to 30 workers refused to work, fortified work cars, shots were fired, and eight leaders were arrested and jailed in Casper. One man was shot in the shoulder but not seriously injured. In preliminary hearings Judge Tubbs discharged seven and sentenced one.

Street Railway Plans Near Casper Franchises Granted Hope
Casper residents hear that RE Richard Shipp and associates are nearing a franchise grant to build a street railway from the Burlington depot to the city southern boundary then east to McKinley avenue and north to connect with Capitol Hill. The system would use underground wires, storage battery cars, a five cent fare, and begin service next summer with five cars at a time.

W A Holst of New York City, district car inspector, awarded the contract to Larsen and Juergensen. The wood building, 200 by 40 feet, with corrugated iron, will be ready in six weeks, housing blacksmiths and machinery for immediate work. J W Millard to supervise. workforce to grow as demand rises from 300 cars now to about 500 within a year. this shop will be the only one of its kind in the middle west, with more shops in the east, south, and on the Pacific coast.
