A new Sheridan mayor backed by the police chief begins strict enforcement of morality laws. Since May 1, arrests have risen as officers target chronic offenders and venues permitting women in rooms with liquor. The city vows no male resident or regular patron will be tolerated in the designated immoral section.
Dr GC A Dunkway becomes Wyoming University president on August 1 after forty five active years. A native of Albany Oregon he pursued education through self help working cattle and sheep in Wyoming before earning an AB from Cornell and advanced studies at Harvard. He earned a PhD later and taught at Stanford before leading the University of Montana, now slated to advance Wyoming’s profile on the state college map.
Fremont County had a representative aboard the Titanic when it sank. Harold Reynolds, brother of Mrs Harris Willoughby and Carl Reynolds, worked for the Sorenson sheep outfit and planned to sail from England to work for Morris Willoughby. Relatives reported letters indicating he would sail on the Titanic and no further word has come. He was a young man just starting life in the West Country.
Walter Keegan of New York defeated Hank Weber of Casper at the Coliseum, taking the first fall in 20 minutes 4 seconds and the second in 12 minutes 41 seconds. Keegan, the reigning belt holder, displayed a strong mastery of wrestling with solid physique and technique, while Nelson and Meany refereed the boxing prior. About 180 spectators attended the show before the Wind River Reservation act text appeared in the paper.
A partially legible 19th century notice reports a man found dead by a road north of Jobin county. The unknown individual appears elderly and likely died some time before discovery, with signs suggesting a long illness or exposure. Authorities request identification and next of kin notification.
Republicans held a county convention at the court house on Monday appointing delegates to Cheyenne for the state convention next Monday. The slate included HK Brooks C A Townsend Marrick Sullivan AJ Cunningham and Julian Lever as delegates with TL Patten F E Place AJ Cobb W T Evans M P Wheeler as alternates. Democrats elected W A Ninckmore and PJ O Connor as delegates with eight central committee members present. Both parties adjourned with no further business and it is understood all delegates are set for Cheyenne.
George Powell returns from Omaha after selling five fed lambs for 7.78 each net after freight. Douglas Enterprise notes graduation of 26 from high school, names students, and invites all to Odd Fellows hall for ceremony. Also covers local visits, cattle and wool business, railroad work, and community notes across Casper, Glenrock, Rawlins, and surrounding areas.
Wm. Hjorth of Jamestown representing eastern capitalists spent days in Natrona county examining oil prospects. He secured leases on about three sections at the western Salt Creek field’s edge and returned east Tuesday to plan development work at once.
