Mayo Sisters to Manage State Hospital at Casper

Father George Bryant announced the state board of charities will turn the Casper state hospital over to the Franciscan sisters who will manage it and nurse the sick. The Mayo brothers may visit for operations. the sisters run Mayo Hospital in Rochester and Casper’s will be a branch of the eastern Mayo system. A Shoshoni report says Scott Jewel was accidentally shot by Harold Aronson in Casper. Jewel died after being fatally wounded in a barbershop incident. Aronson, a Casper boy, claims the gun was loaded.

Unmarried Drug Store Partner Dies at 84 in Shoshoni

The deceased, age 84, was a young man and unmarried who ran a Shoshoni drug store in partnership with his brother Dr Jewel. Mrs Jewel had traveled East that morning to meet him but returned after learning of the accident. The doctor and wife carried the remains through town yesterday, to be laid to rest at Pine Island Minnesota.

A week from next Tuesday Natrona county residents will decide if they want a district high school to improve education beyond the current public schools. The measure promises lasting benefits and should be supported by voters who care for children and county progress, as every taxpayer bears the cost and every boy deserves better schooling.

State Veterinarian reports glanders spread and horse killings

State Veterinarian Pflaeging returned from Bucknam reporting he killed and burned two diseased horses with glanders. He warns of numerous glanders cases northwest and says two deputies will ride out in ten days to examine range horses, one from the city westward and one from Lander eastward, while warning ranchers in Kaycee country about impostor stock men posing as veterinarians.

Military post graft scheme targets horses in uniform

A man posed as a U S soldier to steal from horse owners by offering dubious cures for glandered horses. He claimed distemper could be cured with a neck hypodermic and charged per head before vanishing. The animals recovered after the false treatment, and the suspect fled to parts unknown.
