The day featured a wind swept bucking contest won by Irving Hays on Yellow Devil and a series of races with large cash prizes. The Douglas Enterprise reports a string of horse fatalities among valuable stock in the area. Imported stallions owned by John B. Higgins J M Carey & Bros and John Morton died after illness. The Ogalalla Sheep & Cattle Co lost two fine Missouri shipsmules, while George Powell’s high grade stallion at LaPrese Ranch is gravely ill. Estimated losses exceed $10 000 with no contagious disease found and the dry range blamed.
