Attempt to wreck train near Wolton halted

A youth named Phil Watson, about twenty, tried to wreck a passenger train near Wolton by placing obstacles and rocks on the track. Engineer J O Smith stopped the train in time. Watson confessed to the act and thefts in the Big Horn mountains. He was jailed in Casper and may face life imprisonment or death, with possible leniency depending on railroad officials.

Insurance Man in Bad Pay Check Case at Orin

Life insurance agent A. Prose was arrested on charges of attempting to defraud and writing checks without funds. He waived hearing and bonds. Prose and his wife had stayed at the Arlington hotel while he arranged money, then disappeared, leaving creditors seeking payment. Wyoming News Highlights Include Pine Creek Well and Picnic

Leasing and drilling near Glenrock signals activity in the stretch basin with a well seven miles south of Glenrock. Knights of Columbus hold a large annual picnic drawing about 200 attendees and with many bringing lunch baskets. Weather and crop damage from a July hailstorm impacted farmers in Muddy country southeast of Casper, notably 4.0 Lamb and Frank Smith. A cornerstone ceremony for a Catholic church is planned next Sunday afternoon led by Bishop E. McGovern with Third Regiment Band contributing.

Reverend Rupard to Speak in Casper on Oil Faith and Prospect

State Sunday School missionary Rev J L Rupard will conduct a Casper conference Friday through Sunday with two addresses and a crown session at 70 o’clock. Rev G L Mills also to speak. Mills previously worked in Sunday School and remains connected with the movement. Oil prospecting notes by State Geologist J E Jamison suggest paying quantities nearby and urge formation of an exploiting company to drill test the fields near Glenrock and Salt Creek Casper. Jamison reports favorable indicators and plans to return once funds are raised.

Hanley Company Strikes Rich Oil Find in Salt Creek Field

Hanley and Company, recently active in Salt Creek, struck oil about noon Sunday on the northeast quarter of section 3 townslip 20 range TW. A nitroglycerine test at 1240 feet triggered immediate flow estimated 400 to 500 barrels per day. The firm controls about 3000 acres and plans another well and rapid development. Other area activity includes J C Donnell moving a rig to the Whedale ranch, Mountain Oil resuming Castle Creek work, and Wyoming Grade Oil starting on section 28.

Commissioners Proceedings in Natrona County Wyoming 1912

The natrona county board met in Casper with chair Grieve and commissioners Conwell Cheney and Sawyer presiding. Bills were approved for salaries and expenses including Scott Sawyer Ogburn Mace Wilson McGiraugh Hamilton trips and jail costs. Local oil activity noted with Eclipse Oil Co. representatives visiting and wells being drilled by Midwest and Hjorthol in Salt Creek. Naylor to take a new post with Midwest. Refinery Equipment Expansion Timelines At Franco Wyoming

Reports from Frederick Salathe describe rapid refinery upgrades to handle new heavy production.
