Goats to Build Fire Lanes in Lassen National Forest
Three thousand angora goats will be used over two years starting spring to construct fire lines through chaparral in Lassen National Forest California. The project aims to enable safer forest protection and promote merchantable tree growth by grazing along trails set eighty rods apart to clear brush and prevent fires. If successful, the method may expand to other National Forests and tackle chronic chaparral problems threatening timber.
