Civic Club Organized Boosts Community Effort in Town

The Civic Club formed at a public gathering last Tuesday despite sleet. Mrs E P Holmberg presided as the Caser Cornet band and High School girls' quartet entertained, followed by officer elections and plans for future activities. Manager E E Stone promoted to district manager duties across multiple exchanges with a salary increase.

Sam Jacobs of the New York Cloak and Saithouse in Casper has installed two 12 foot oak and glass show cases, a dustproof display case, and a dustproof clothes cabinet. The fixtures, bought in St. Louis, mirror urban department stores and aim to make his shop the state’s finest taberdashery.

Arbor Day Proclamation in Wyoming Seeks Tree Planting Day

Governor Alec Wyche proclaims Friday April 30 1909 as Tree Planting Day urging homes schools and rural areas to plant trees. The notice calls for broad observance to benefit spring productivity and community life, signed at the Capitol in Cheyenne with Secretary WM Schnitger.

Tax Commissioner Arrives in Casper for Real Value Push

W. A. Richards, newly elected tax commissioner, arrived in Casper Monday and spent a day with County Assessor Sturgeon. He told a Press reporter that raising property valuations to real value is the goal.

High School Band Impresses Civic Club in Casper

The Casper High School band debuted publicly at the Civic club, showing strong progress and promising future concert performances. They plan a concert at the opera house on the 28th, led by Mr. Bogue, with members including Trevett, Conwell, Davidson, Crawford, and many others. The article also notes J. E. Schulte receiving Washington notification that the stockyard tract near the shearing pens will be leased, with Wyoming & Northwestern Railroad plans to build stockyards serving Natrona County cattle and sheep interests.

ISITE SELECTED FOR HOSPITAL

The State Board of Charities and Reform with Governor Brooks and others visited Casper to choose a site for the state hospital. They picked block 82 in Park addition donated by Judge Carey and planned bids in 30 days with construction likely starting in June and completion early winter.

District High School Plan Petition Drive Under Way

The committee overseeing the district high school plan prepared petitions for each district and will begin active outreach to outlying schools. Dr Keith is drafting letters to trustees as part of the effort.
