Hello girls at the Western Union telegraph office quit for about an hour citing a misunderstanding over Hay force of operators. Relief workers were urged to join the strike by staying home while the day force was out. A settlement was reached and strikers returned to duty around 10:30 a.m. A substitute operator handled calls during the disruption.
Judge Elbert H. Gary told the Iron and Steel Institute that a small minority cloaks aims in labor rhetoric to win public sympathy. He warned strikes are part of a campaign to disrupt the economy and threaten constitutional integrity, urging employers to act justly and the public to support private enterprise.

Washington May 78 An effort to override the president's veto of the Republican peace resolution failed in the house today. The vote was 19 in favor of overriding the veto to 152 against or 29 less than the required two thirds. Two Republicans Kelly of Michigan and Fuller of Massachusetts voted to sustain the veto while 17 Democrats joined the Republican majority to override.
WARMINGTON May. In an effort to defeat the indiscriminate sale of liquor on physicians prescriptions, Commissioner Williams of the bureau of internal revenue issued a ruling limiting the number of permits allowed each physician to 100 for every three months, except with good cause.
