Liquor Statute 5 Attacked Over Whiskey in Chicago Warehouses

Former Senator J Hamilton Lewis files suit in U S district court seeking to recover $500000 worth of whiskey stored in Chicago government warehouses. Plaintiffs claim provisions of the Volstead Act and eighteenth amendment do not apply to whiskey deposited before passage of the laws, owned by the depositors, with a request for a mandatory injunction to release and return the property after tax payment. The case targets government officials and the warehousing arrangement rather than invalidating prohibition laws.
