Steel merger lawyer clears contempt charge data handed over
Thomas L. Chadbourne, the lawyer in the Midvale Inland Republic steel merger case, purged himself of the contempt charge after turning over data on four other steel firms. Samuel Untermyer reported that Mortimer Schiff will not be recalled, and data on the non entrant firms will stay confidential. Chadbourne's reports show the three entering companies averaged 15 million dollars annual net earnings over a decade, peaking at 60 million in 1917 and a 11 million loss in 1971, with combined assets near 263 million. Untermyer plans to subpoena Wall Street brokers to probe pre merger stock sales prospects.
