Gov. Calvin J. Coolidge, accepting the Republican vice presidential nomination, called for rescuing the nation from war reactions and repossessing government and property, in North Hampton Mass on July 27. He framed the chief task as restoring public control and ownership.
United Press reports Francisco Villa telegraphed the government to surrender with conditions after a raid and capture in Sabinas. Huerta said surrender acceptable if Villa repairs destroyed railroad. Villa to report to General Martinez at Torreon as government orders stand. A separate civic address cites public law and order as vital to public welfare.
In Sandy Hook on July 27 the Resolute overcame a strong start by Sir Thomas Lipton's sloop to lead halfway through the first 15 mile leg. The wind was five knots, casting doubt on finishing within the time limit.
The Shamrock IV and Resolute started together at 2 17 60 in a handicap race to decide the America s Cup. They began a 16 mile beat from Ambrose Channel to Asbury Park with Resolute taking a slight lead by 3 40 after the first leg and improving on Shamrock’s early pace.
Six U S destroyers seized about 500000 gallons of fuel oil from the Associated Oil company at San Francisco under the Lever Act authorities. Navy department officials said seizures followed oil company refusals to obey requisition orders issued under the Lever law.
Chicago reports heavyweight champion Stompney will fight Milly Minke of St. Paul in a ten round heavyweight title bout at Benton Harbor Michigan on Labor Day action slated for Labor Day.
Manville Wyoming July 27 H B Card offers 500 reward for arrest and conviction of unknown persons who stripped and removed parts from a disabled automobile after an accident on the Manville Lusk road. The theft occurred while Card was trying to move the damaged car to a garage.
A number of tremors rattled Los Angeles on July 27 causing minor alarm. The United Press report notes several aftershocks shaking the city, with residents reporting windows rattling and small structural concerns. No major damage or injuries are confirmed.
Charles Burns of Huron 8 D attempted to escape Sunday night by sawing through his cell bars. He paid $10 toward bar repairs after Deputy Sheriff Larson turned him over. A welder worked on the bars as Burns allegedly obtained the hacksaw from outside the jail. He threatened to kill two men if needed.
Wheat futures fell 13 to 14 cents and corn slipped 5 cents per bushel at the Kansas City grain market today as prices extended a market slump.

An official State Department report states Francisco Villa occupied Sininas Coahuila and abducted Carl Haoglin, head of the Sabinas brewery. Haoglin’s safety is not in doubt, while Villa previously seized and released several Americans for information. Villa’s supporters deny the Mexico City tale and predict terrorizing moves toward border towns.
A plea for Thomas J. Mooney and Warren K. Billings, convicted in San Francisco for the 1916 preparedness parade bomb explosion, was prepared at the White House by a committee of the Amalgamated Association of Street and Electric Railway Employees. John Mooney headed the committee, delivering a memorandum to Secretary Tumulty requesting the president to correct what the group calls wrongs done to the men.

London commentators view the Soviet call for a peace conference as akin to a two world congress affecting Europe and Asia. Most London papers are not favorable to the suggestion though some see potential for good results if pursued.
An official Moscow statement says Brody a key Galicia town 58 miles east and northeast of Lemberg has been seized by the Holoheviks marking gains along the front today.
In Thermopolis Wyoming on July 7 two northbound Burlington passengers awoke to find thieves had cut away window screens and stolen trousers from their berth hammocks between Cheyenne and Casper. One man borrowed pants from another passenger, the second wore his friend’s trousers after a porter bought him overalls at a wayside station.
Cheyenne July 27 Pete A Cordillo convicted of murder in the second degree for participation in the slaying of Frank Jennings near Laramie was sentenced to from 30 to 40 years. Cordillo claimed he was framed by the state and witnesses who testified against him but the court condemned his attitude. The trial of Walter Newell the third alleged Jennings slayer will be held here in October.
Police investigate report that a man matching E Leroy wanted in Detroit train murder is heading to Los Angeles on a Santa Fe train. Telegrams sent to western railroad centers to locate him.
Wheat futures plunged with additional losses of 11 percent to 14 cents a bushel as selling pressure grows. Marek closed at 2.37 dollars, down from 2.51 last night. Corn and oats weakened as well but losses stayed under 5 cents.
F J Birss secretary and general manager of Domino Wyoming Oil died at his Omaha home at 1 a m after being overcome by gas three weeks earlier while inspecting the Domino Bessemer well at Salt Creek. He was 65 and had worked with Domino a year and a half, mostly in Casper. His funeral set for Omaha tomorrow at 2 p m. He led Western Bridge Construction of Omaha and was active in Masonic orders.
