Denver Man Named Commander for Ensuing Year

H L Freehafer of Henry W Lawton Camp No 1 Denver was elected commander of the United Spanish War Veterans department of Colorado and Wyoming at a morning meeting during the 14th annual encampment at the 190 hall Casper Collins camp split its vote and Trinidad will host the 1822 encampment. Other officers elected include C L O Neal McConnell Camp No 6 Trinidad senior vice commander J A Pinney and Casper Collins camp No 14 junior vice commander Harvey Lord of Henry W W Lawton Camp No 1 Denver as department adjutant. A sinking fund 10 percent of all department receipts was approved and a permanent headquarters will be in the state capitol building in Denver. The body adjourned to 3 pm for public installation.

Denver July 6 Mrs Mary Ellen Cooley 25 narrowly escaped death by asphyxiation when a teakettle boiled over and extinguished the gas flame at her home. She was found unconscious on the floor of her Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co workplace. She will recover.

Eight Die in Whiting Refinery Explosion and Fire

Trio Injured when Airplane Strikes Auto in Great Falls

In Great Falls Montana on the Fourth of July a plane taking off clipped a car near Chateau smashing the auto and injuring two women and a boy from Bynum. James Baumannauer aged 10 suffered a broken collarbone. his mother and another rider were badly bruised. The aircraft's wingtip struck the automobile, causing it to crash into the small car. All three victims were hospitalized and expected to recover. The plane and car were damaged with the machine badly smashed.

Judge Hugo Friend overruled a motion to quash the general conspiracy indictment against 18 former baseball players and alleged gamblers in the 1919 World Series scandal. Teutons Face War Trial Rulings in Leipzig Case

London dispatch reports the German supreme court in Leipzig ended the trials of Lieut. Gen. Karl Stenger and Maj. Bruno Crusius on war crime charges.
