A Chinese New Year celebration ends in bloodshed with three dead and multiple wounded in San Francisco Los Angeles and Stockton. Police rush guards to Chinese districts as armed camps form amid fear and retaliation across the coast.
Nancy Chamberlain aged 91 disappeared from her daughter and granddaughter's home in Chicago. Police say her body was found buried in a backyard flower bed at the artists colony studio on Fifty-seventh street. Marian Townsend admits natural death last June and burial by the two women citing poverty and love.
Enrico Caruso, world renowned tenor, lies in critical condition at the Vanderbilt Hotel after a heart attack. Oxygen therapy continues as doctors monitor his status with a planned later consultation and relatives, Met Opera colleagues, and visiting clergy at his bedside.
The Casper Chamber of Commerce reports 1,050 members and a united board statement urging continued civic effort. Directors outlined annual plans, by law amendments, and forum and committee work led by Warle PD Holmes and Casper Herald coverage.

Denver promoter and real estate dealer John La Bhar and his wife along with W H Gill and others were arrested on Weld County indictments accusing a fraud tied to a clock gang scheme. Indictments total 32 against La Bhar and his wife 27 against Gill 9 against Salisbury with bonds set at 6000 each for Gill and Salisbury. La Bhar promoted stock sales in Greeley last fall supporting companies with capital up to 1 000 000. arrestees were transported to Greeley for arraignment.
The Rock Island Nova weekly plant was dynamited early this morning causing light damage to a window. Editor Dan Drow slept nearby and escaped unharmed, while Drent, convicted of criminal libel in Davenport, faces jail sans injury. Earlier a similar attack hit the News plant years ago with no arrests.
Samuel M. Vauclain, Baldwin Locomotive Works president, told stockholders the plant will operate at about the same capacity as in 1920 and expressed confidence in early business stabilization. The annual report shows a surplus of 1,623,618 versus 4,771,243 in 1919 and a net cash profit of 4,428,518, with gross sales down to 73,642,666 from 64,307,777 in 1919.
Feb 16 The American Graves Registration service announced opposition to at present removing and burying in the United States the body of an unidentified American soldier in France for honors. The decision cites the shrinking number of unidentified remains and the hope that teeth chart identifications will allow eventual matching with U S records in Washington.
The announcement from Yale University confirms the engagement of Rev Dr An Gen Phelps Stokes as secretary, accepted by President Arthur T Hadley. Stokes has served Yale for about twenty years. Also noted is Daisy Hendley named managing editor of a North Carolina daily in Wilton, becoming the first woman in the state to hold such a post.
In Battle Creek Michigan several workers at the Battle Creek Banitarium have died recently from botulism traced to preserved spinach. State Food and Drug Commissioner Pred I Woodyworth announced today.

Calvin Platt 40 was arrested after attempting a home invasion at 1223 East Second Street. He forced Henry Turk and another man to raise funds by a $48 check, was confronted by Officers Mareley and Clark, and taken to the city jail where the check was found on him. Witnesses reported the incident and a motor cycle pursuit led to his capture.

Health Commissioner Copeland expands immigrant inspections while Port of New York health officer Dr. F E Cofer speeds delousing and cleansing. Port quarantine stations prepare for possible federal control transfer. The Hague reports U S coast authorities seek synchronized emigration and embarkation standards to prevent family separations amid the outbreak.
The jury found Charles Clinton guilty of assault with intent to murder in a Colorado Springs bank robbery case. The verdict issued at 2 p.m. carries a sentence of one to fourteen years in the penitentiary.
Miss Vera Peterson a stenographer employed by a petroleum company and Dr Carlos Williams were found shot to death in a San Francisco apartment today. Police believe Williams killed the girl after a quarrel and then shot himself. Authorities say Williams used the alias William Peterson and also lived in the apartment under that name.
Leslie A. Miller resigns as internal revenue collector for Wyoming effective February 28. A. H. Ricker will serve as acting collector until a new appointee is named. Miller plans to assist federal taxpayers in Cheyenne starting March 1 and thanks the public for cooperation during his tenure.
Chicago February 16 The indicted 1919 World Series players won a preliminary victory as Judge William F Dever granted a bill of particulars for their March 6 trial. A motion to specify counts was denied. Players Joe Jackson Claude Williams and George Weaver attended as Assistant State's Attorney Gorman read excerpts from alleged grand jury confessions. Jackson said to have been promised 25000 but received 5000, prompting defense concerns of perjury. Weaver seeks separate trial as prior disclosures continue.
