Dr. Wilmer Amos Hadley former army surgeon and ranchman died in the electric chair at the state penitentiary after a murder conviction for his wife Sue Seeley Hadley in November 1918. The case became one of Richmond’s most sensational crimes with a nationwide search and a confession obtained in Denver. The condemned man remained calm and said he had made his peace with God.
The county jail is at capacity with 27 prisoners, plus three county inmates held at City Hall. This marks the largest county jail population since 1917 when 34 residents were jailed.
