Oil strike near Edgemont sparks first South Dakota field
French and Rossiter drilled two miles southwest of Edgemont and struck oil in the Lakota sand at 700 feet. A good producer is reported but production figures are withheld pending tests and development. The Edgemont field lies about 14 miles east of the Mule Creek field as excitement spreads and a rush begins.

Water Found in Cat Creek Well Near Decker-Collins Area
The Ten Spot Oil syndicate reports water in the first sand of the Cat Creek field Montana. The well lies half a mile southwest of the Fifty-Six and Frantz No 2 producers and one mile northwest of Decker-Collins No 1 which also had water in the first sand. Sand thickness is 80 feet, with plans to relieve water and drill the second sand. Harrison Greene, a homesteader in Cat Creek, is cited as a beneficiary of the Porches Elk Basin Mid-Northern project after serving in France and suffering shell shock. Based on 1000 barrels a day, Greene’s royalty is about 240 dollars daily.
