The city council approved licenses for 16 rooming houses and hotels under the new purity ordinance after police and court review. Three properties North Durbin street Home, 139 West Yellowstone Ave, and 190 North Center street Court hotel were placed on probation with strict conditions and possible license revocation for violations.

Denver August 17 The tramway strike drama centers on signed applications by union members to resume duty and be sent to the company. Seven union officers remain jailed after 90 day contempt sentences for defying the injunction. Leader Binet Jack Jerome, linked to strikebreakers, appeared briefly amid a new assault complaint filed in Los Angeles.
In Antwerp on August 17 A C Hill of Bellieh team won the 100 metre heat and Chilenet of France took the 5000 metre final. KH Landen of NYAC won the em jump final setting a new Olympic record of 14 time metres. Holland defeated Italy in tug of war while a local social note mentions Mrs Harvey Wilner traveling to Denver and Mrs Wisner leaving for about a month.
Between 120 and 140 novices are expected to tread the hot sands at the Mystic Shrine ceremonial in Casper on September 13 with at least 500 Shriners and the Rawlins divan in attendance. The event includes a 6:30 banquet at Henning and two theatre sections at the American theatre beginning 8 o clock. Paris dispatch reports Polish counter attacks repelling Russians at the Bug near Cholm and a north west push toward Miawa while French officials note gains in Thorn and the southern front as Soviet pressure eases.
The longshoremen who have been on strike since April voted to resume work immediately. Announcement came from the union president. Terms of settlement were not disclosed to the public.
In Thorold Ontario, Aug 11, David McNeal charged with the murder of a young girl seeks a trial by addressing a mob. A male set fire to the jail, dragged McNeal toward the gallows, and a moose was placed around his neck. McNeal pleaded in the name of Christ as flames and crowd pressure prompted police to intervene.

In Los Angeles on August 17 Associated Press reports a safe in Police Judge Chesboro’s courtroom at Central police station was robbed. About 25000 dollars were stolen and the break was discovered today. The robbers escaped with an undetermined amount.
