Denver reports 11 to 14 inches of snow from a weekend blizzard. Roads blocked and telegraph lines down, with Western Union service halted overnight. restoration expected, though poles torn down delay repair. Livestock damage feared as districts reopen communication and temperatures fell below freezing.
In southeast Arkansas a tornado killed more than 50 people and injured hundreds across Miller and Hempstead counties and Cass county Texas. Reports from Little Rock said thousands were affected with extensive property damage and communication lines down. Heaviest loss centered near Texarkana in Upper Miller county and Hope in Hempstead county with 15 to 20 deaths.
In Philadelphia R H E New York defeated Philadelphia 512 to 4115 with Batteries Ryan Toney Salee Smith Meadows Brugge noted. A Tastee cage game at Chicago was postponed due to snow.

Spokane April 16 Indication of checks drawn by the defunct Milholland and Hough bond firm in stock transactions. The firm allegedly obtained securities from James F. Callahan of Wallace Idaho in exchange for fraudulent bonds. The trial of Jay E. Hough on forgery charges continued with Jack Whitman and John B Milholland on the stand. The firm is accused of defrauding Callahan of about 400000 involving bonds of the Teel irrigation district of Echo Oregon.
London April 16 United Press miners refuse to resume work until next weeks general conference decides action. Frank Hodges secretary of the miners federation says striking coal miners will carry on pending unity talks. Government efforts to resolve the crisis continue as Windsor coal merchants receive charity coal shipments.
The House approved emergency tariff and antidumping bills by a 269 to 112 vote amid adjournment to Monday to assign committee members including immigration, with Republicans and 15 Democrats breaking ranks. The measure heads to the Senate where passage is uncertain as debate continues on Colombia treaty and other items. Separately, Secretary Denby announced leasing drilling rights inside a reservoir near oil reserve lands to private firms to prevent private drilling on the outskirts.
Chicago reports May wheat up sharply on May futures as policies and crop prospects lift prices. Traders initially resisted as May wheat neared 1.25 but official drought and crop declines abroad spurred covering. May wheat rose to 1.27 and a half cents before profit taking trimmed gains.
Washington April 14 Rep Mondell of Wyoming Republican leader voices opposition to a sales tax predicting no law taxing sales would be enacted this session. Mrs Lilia Lingrel tele-probe company matron departs on a three month vacation largely to Oklahoma to visit friends and relatives.
Olympic sprint champion Charles W. Paddock will skip eastern events in 192? season as announced at the University of Southern California. He may still compete at the University of Washington relays in Seattle on April 21.
Denver court granted three days for a motion to suspend or remit Judge Ben B. Lindsey's contempt sentence. Lindsey asked for mercy while stressing protecting child confidences, noting a 4 to 4 Supreme Court result and intent to proceed with a formal motion next week.

Santa Ana California report says BeBe Daniels a motion picture actress was ordered to serve a ten day speeding sentence. DA and sheriff note no commitment papers yet and Daniels planned to dismiss her appeal to obtain proper commitment papers. Meanwhile she remains in jail as a guest of Orange County waiting further action.
The Big Horn Basin Press association with 20 editors from Riverton Basin Greybull Cody and Lovell met to oppose newspaper circulation contests as illegitimate. They argued subscribers gained through contests may not read the paper, offering little value to advertisers.
The Star of Finland and Star of Alaska, leaders of the Alaska Packers' Association fleet, sail from San Francisco toward the Crystal Bay fishing banks. The remaining 30 vessels are expected to depart by month’s end after a two week hold up over wage talks. A new agreement had been under negotiation.
Roland Pothier confessed to federal authorities that Captain Rosenbluth ordered him to bring a loaded gun and shoot Maj. Alexander Cronkhite at Camp Lewis in October 1918. Pothier, jailed in Providence, Ohio, gave five alleged confessions detailing the weapon discharge and surrounding events.
