Refinery Fire Causes Light Damage with Quick Firefighting

A broken pipe connected to Midwest Refining caused a spectacular blaze last night at 7:30 as oil burned and valves and pipes were damaged. An employee shut off the oil from a tank, limiting damage while city and plant crews fought the fire with incompatible couplings and a small chemical wagon remained on scene. The flames reached about 75 feet high, lighting the sky for miles before being contained with little structural harm.

Bolsheviks Routed by Forces of Seminov and Japanese

TOKIO reports Bolshevik detachments advancing from Irkutsk were routed with heavy losses by combined forces of Gen. Seminov and the Japanese, completely checking the Bolshevik advance. VLADIVOSTOK says heavy fighting continues at Khabarovak near the Agar River with heavy casualties on both sides.

Madrid April 17 reports say fifteen workers were killed and eighty wounded in the recent labor disturbances in Asturias. Order has been restored.

Strike breaks up as Chicago outlaw leaders stand pat

Reports say the switchmen strike is breaking up along the line with freight traffic resuming and congestion easing. In Chicago 29 leaders were arrested and 33 food dealers faced bail or recognizance as grand jury hearings approach. Grand lodge officers and outlaw union heads in Boston and New York note dwindling demands and rising work resumption across routes.
