Coal Price Hike In Cheyenne After Wage Award

In Cheyenne Wyoming on April 13 coal retailers increased prices by 7.5 percent, citing a 15.5 percent rise at the mine mouth after a bituminous wage award. The retail uplift is about 70 cents a ton on top grades, with operators saying the rise is not yet six tenths of the overall advance.

U P Band Gives Concert in the State Prison

The Union Pacific band from Cheyenne performed a two hour concert for 360 Wyoming state penitentiary inmates in Rawlins during a visit with Cheyenne Shriners. Convicts adopted resolutions of appreciation presented to the staff by Gov. Carey.

Park County Horses in Quarantine for Glanders

In Cody Wyoming on April 13 inspection connected to a Powell sale by Mrs N and Frown found glanders among Park County horses. A strict quarantine is now in force. Seven of eighteen Brown horses with the disease were destroyed and Mrs Brown reimbursed buyers for losses.

Three Cheyenne Boys Rescued From April Storm Drift

Cheyenne Wyoming April 1 a trio of boys ages 10 14 on a cycling fishing trip were stranded by a severe April storm near Speer station. Exhausted they huddled in a large snowdrift where two were unconscious until a telegraph agent braved the blizzard to rescue them. They rode a train to the city for care and were later released with no serious injuries. The storm dumped eight inches of snow and disrupted train service with high winds and drifting, causing livestock suffering.

Robber of U.S. Mails Is Brought Back to State

Dick Stone arrested recently at Boise Idaho on a charge of robbing the United States mail at Rawlins months ago. He will be brought to Cheyenne and held for the May federal grand jury amid allegations he obtained $7,000 in negotiable securities.
