Counterfeit 25-cent pieces sighted in Boundary country

A batch of counterfeit 25-cent coins dated 1888 and minted to imitate the Canadian two bit piece has appeared in the Boundary country. They are bright and thick enough to fool some, but are detectable by size. About 400 dollars worth are said to be circulating in the area, with a few found in Cascadeau.

On September 14 metal quotes show bar silver at 50 cents, Mexican dollars at 47.40, copper at 18.50, and lead at 4.00 with 4.68 percent. The price-fixing firm places lead at 4.40 at the close for miners and smelters.
