Fast Passenger Trains Planned Into Grand Forks Next Monday

Railway notes from Trail report W F Tye, the chief engineer, expects passenger service to begin within weeks after completion to Midway. Fast trains would run Rossland to Midway with connections at Robson, return trip the same day. Track progress includes Grand Forks bridge stringers soon. Grand Forks to Greenwood bridge nearly ready. J B Lawrence named train master at Trail with Dispatcher Lewis as assistant.

Rumbles From the Rails on Cascade Line Progress

Eleven passengers rode the night special to Cascade as Billy Wall's bridge crew works on the Grand Forks long bridge. Locomotives take water at Cattle Creek and Gilpin's with a supply tank planned at Cascade garde. H J Hicks arrives in Cascade as telegraph operator assistant to Agent Huckerby. President Shaughnessy of the P R plans an inspection trip once rails reach Midway. W F Tye leads the chief engineers on the project.

Mother Lode Smelter Planned Near Greenwood

Paul Johnson announced at a banquet in Greenwood that the Mother Lode smelter will be built at the mouth of Copper Creek beside Greenwood townsite. Surveys start this week with plans for a 260 ton copper furnace three miles from the Mother Lode mine.

Clean Breast Confession Ties Hotel Columbia Fire Case

Robert Cameron alias Jack Cameron alias Campbell alias Crane and Chas Mullen were jailed in Grand Forks on charges of setting the Hotel Columbia blaze July 17. Pinkerton detective Donovan and local constables pushed the case with hearings set, while rumors said Cameron confessed and implicated others as witnesses from Spokane arrived.
