Easter Sunday Mine Contemplates Building Smelter

Directors of the Waukegan & Washington Mining and Smelting Co explore Cascade Water Power for power needs. The Haster Sunday claim on Sulphide mountain near Cascade yields rich ore with assays up to 8000 per ton. The company plans a larger plant and possible Cascade smelter to ship ore locally.

Mountain View claim shows rich copper deposit near Cascade

The Mountain View claim two miles from Cascade on the American side of the Boundary line reveals two parallel ledges 800 to 500 feet long with 7 to 22 feet of copper ore across. About 75 tons of ore are stored on site with samples returning $15 per ton. Owners consider a gravity or aerial tramway to a CPR spur. experts call it a promising property. Also, James Matheson, CPR brakeman, was crushed by a freight car at Farrow near Bulldog tunnel. His left leg was amputated above the knee at Mies Rhodes hospital in Grand Forks. He is 22 and from Lethbridge, NWT.

Burnt Basin Contact Group Sold to Jacksons

Michael Schaich sells his entire interest in the Contact group of Burnt Basin claims to Henry T. Jackson and Marshall Jackson. The 180 acre parcel includes Contact Glengary Mountain View and Mountain View Fraction north of and adjacent to Mother Lode. The Jacksons now own two thirds with a Rosslander holding the rest. A tunnel 105 feet long cuts 75 feet of low grade quartz, and a 10 to 12 foot wide high grade ore body appears near the surface along much of the Contact claim. The property lies 1 200 to 1 500 feet from the Columbia and Western railway.
