Embezzler Cornelius J. Alvord Arrested in Boston

Cornelius J. Alvord Jr the embezzling note teller of the First National Bank New York was arrested in Boston Tuesday and taken to a New York prison. He arrived in Boston last week and hid at Hotel Touraine then rented a second floor room on Huntington Avenue under the name Mr Smith. He spent a quiet night in police custody and read papers in the corridor this morning.

Secret rail fraud ring hits Canadian Pacific tickets

Secret service agents expose a staged ring in the mining region that defrauded Canadian Pacific of thousands through fraudulent tickets bought by the company and used by conductors to circulate for resale. Hotel operators are said to have acted as intermediaries in the scheme.

Tunnel Contract Completed and Officials Change

Olaf Olson finished a 400 foot tunnel under the dam and under the P R railway to the filumeway, with tunnel workers paid off. He vacated the Black hotel, turning it over to Julius Black, and plans to return to his Seattle area farm. Water Power Co intends to finish dam work and foundation for the powerhouse before high water. The Quinlivan contract will be completed in early spring to allow powerhouse erection. New Wagon Road Planned to Link Marble Quarry to Kettle River

The United States Marble company plans a wagon road from its Deep Creek quarry to Bowen’s place on the Kettle River with a cable ferry to be set by the McKay ferry line. If allowed by assessment laws, about 300 will be spent. The route will serve the Easter Sunday mining district and reduce travel distance between Bossburg and Cascade by six to seven miles.
