Citizens push for road from Christina lake to Franklin camp

Mr Angus Cameron urges a joint Gladstone Cascade effort to open a road from Christina lake head to Franklin camp. A citizens meeting and committees are proposed to plan and view the route, with government aid expected once properly presented. Mrs Egerton's Covent Garden costume promotes Canada and CPR

Mrs Egerton, an English nurse from Dawson City, created a striking costumes tableau in Covent Garden to showcase Canadian scenery and the CPR. Her outfit featured CPR trains in motion, lakes and mountains, and a banner with provincial coats of arms. The London press praised the display as highly memorable. She plans another tour of Canada this summer, with photographs stored at CPR offices in Montreal.

Rates Debate At Dominion Express Sparks Company Reply

The Record reports a dispute over freight rates with Dominion Express. Officials supplied old and new schedules showing earlier reductions applied only to through business. They claim The Record overstated rates, noting many Boundary district points still pay old rates such as Cascades to Grand Forks at 75c per hundred down to 70 pounds.

Harry Cook killed a large rattlesnake near the dam. Grand Forks stage service altered by new rail schedule aiding Rossburg traffic. Pearl Grant of Gladstone seeks a teaching certificate at Nelson July 4 to 10, with Inspector Burns presiding. Great Northern surveyors eye a rail route to Republic via Marcus, Kettle River, Little Boulder and Deer Creek, then Curlew valley and south to Republic. Lupier’s route may avoid Cascade areas by about 16 miles, promising freight and passenger rate relief.
