Hotel Columbia Fire Destroys New Town Landmark
Sunday night the Hotel Columbia at Columbia burned to the ground with total loss. It had just been refurbished by the townsite company and opened last Saturday night. Insurance valued in the thousands was listed, origin unclear with some speculation of arson.

Cascade trio abandon Kettle River trip for safer land route
A small party from Cascade A M Button Will Button and Ira Isham in a boat down Kettle River quit at Rock Cut about ten miles below Cascade. They fled the river’s danger and boarded a freighter at Rock Cut then chose dry land navigation to Chewelah which proved safer and quicker.

Narrow Escape at English Point Drowning Incident
Last Sunday T. F. Gaine J. H. Good Jack Robinson and George Sharp visited English Point for a swim. Gaine who could not swim nearly sank twice before Good intervened to rescue him at the last moment. The party rue the perilous episode.

Forest Fires Threaten Timber and Posts Near Gladstone
Messrs Hildebrandt and Wondard report a fire started above Gladstone on Tuesday that spread up the valley destroying valuable timber and threatening 16 000 fence posts recently obtained. A strict law against wetting forest fires should be enforced in this dry weather.
