Wm M Brewer BC correspondent argues against broad claim ownership by a single prospector. He notes mineral act flaws encourage restaking over genuine assessment work and hinder progress. He urges permitting only workable claims to force proper development and attract outside capital.
Reuben Wells of Greenwood Yale District is notified that $100 has been spent on the Undine Mineral Claim in Summit Camp Grand Forks District BC to qualify the claim for the year ending October 25 1900. If Wells fails to contribute within ninety days of publication his interest will vest in the co owner under the Mineral Act Amendment Act 1900. The C P R suffered heavy loss when a 45 car coal and coke barge towed by the tug Valhalla leaked near Nelson. The tug tried to beach the vessel but it sank by the head with seven cars going overboard and lost.

The Cascade Board of Trade held its first regular meeting on Monday April 8 with a large turnout. Members debated railway charters urging competition with the C P R while allowing CPR access, and approved a resolution sent to local MPs. The group also listed public works needs including wagon roads and trails and empowered the Executive Committee to act.
