Rushville notes diverse attendance and events from area

Rushville and surrounding towns report numerous visits and gatherings. Residents attend state fairs in Indianapolis, church and temperance events, political meetings, and social visits while relatives travel from Rushville to Indianapolis and Terre Haute. Local clubs and auctions anticipate fall activities and political campaigns with multiple speakers and community notices.

Binford Morse and Friends Time in Westland and Area

Ariel Binford Nellie Binford and Naomi Binford left this week to attend. Miss Vashti Binford went to Fairmount to teach in the Fairmount Friends Academy. Marion Brooks and family of McCordsville visited the Andersons last Sunday. Miss Nora Burris, ill with typhoid, shows slow improvement. Robert Ellison plans to enter Indiana State University Bloomington next week for prelaw study. Mattie and Dora Binford will resume Greenfield High School next Monday. W C T U officers named for the year: President Mrs R B Binford, Corresponding Secretary Mrs Mary Wilson, Treasurer Mrs Robert Brooks. Mrs Mary Brooks died Friday afternoon at age 28? She was born April 14 1830 in Rush County. Married 1852 to William Brooks, leaving five children. A devout Christian, she joined Methodist Church early, then Society of Friends in 1868, remaining until death. Funeral at Walnut Ridge, last Sunday, with Revs Micajah Morris and J O Binford. Burial in church cemetery.

Ripley Township Sunday School Union Convention Program

The Ripley Township Sunday School Union holds its convention at Riverside church Sunday afternoon. The program features Singing, Opening Exercises by Maria Addison, papers by Mattie Clark on community relations, discussion led by Sylvanus Talbert, music by Riverside and Franklin S.S., recitation by Ethel Parker, Home Department Work by C H Parker, quartet by H B Lucas, and the Township canvass report by the president, plus miscellaneous business and adjournment.

Split in Sixth district Democrats over Puntenney ticket

Rushville correspondent reports Indianapolis Democrats pulled George H. Puntenney from the congressional ticket to aid Populist C. A. Robinson. The action divides the district, likely aiding Mr Johnson with a large majority. Puntenney criticizes Robinson supporters and may publish remarks in his Jacksonian. Rush county Democrats back Puntenney, seeking revenge in the upcoming clash.
