Frank Peters visits Indianapolis and many locals travel near and far for business and family. News covers canning shutdowns, shipments to Indianapolis, social calls, millinery purchases, and a parade of visitors from Charlottesville to Greenfield. Obits and civic notes include births, deaths, speeches, and political rallies.
A published letter from Col Eli Ritter dated October 10 1896 details Indiana Good Citizens League members should vote for candidates aligned with the Nicholson Law. It notes Mount a Republican governor candidate, Remy Daily Owen and Thompson as abstainers, and endorses McKinley as a sober temperate candidate. The writer, Eur F Ritter, states personal assurances and votes within League obligations.
Henry A. Johnson addressed a Friday crowd in Shelbyville after a parade in which 40 girls rode in large wagons. The event followed the parade and highlighted community participation by local groups.
Miss Mattie Bentleys millinery store opened Friday and Saturday with a decorated show window. A large crowd bought hats and bonnets. souvenirs included gold and silver bags, but stock ran short for latecomers. Frank Pusey of Walnut Ridge wed Flora Pitts in High Point North Carolina last week and returned Thursday. Miss Pitts is Jesse Pitts niece. Arvel Herkless, Republican candidate for county surveyor, served as Knightstown water works supervisor this summer and mapped city streets. R R Shiel of Indianapolis will speak here Monday at 1 30 on sound money and good government in the grove if weather permits. He will explain farm price movements with figures.
George Dillman and wife visited W. W. Peters on Sunday. Irvin Price and family and Lan Hayes and wife visited at John Downey's. Albert Earnest is improving from a lame shoulder. Irvin Price bought a horse from Olli Haywood last week. Franklin drum corps stopped playing inside the city due to sick residents' complaints.
