Hill begins a business trip to Cin t i and attend McKinley club events. Knightstown and Greenfield residents visit, while Richmond and Indianapolis trips are noted. Newsom hosts McKinley club activities with Miss Cora Jones declamation. Local dinners, public sales, and political remarks accompany a busy October week.
Generals Russell A. Alger Daniel E. Sickles O O Howard Franz Sigel and Corporal James Tanner arrive at Rushville at 10 in the morning on Thursday Oct 15 and will address crowds from the car platform. The Rush county public should attend. In the afternoon Frank B Posey of Evansville will speak in Meldeon Hall and a night meeting features other speakers.
The Carthage Cycle club hosted a Monday evening gathering at Mr and Mrs J D Dennis to honor Miss Hattie Sparks who plans to winter in Denver Colorado. Guests played an eye only question game with bicycle themed posters, enjoyed a decorated dining table with roses fruits and confections, and oysters were served after seating. Miss Winona Newsom assisted.
J G Wolf and his party from Carthage Indiana arrived in Great Falls and will scout Burton in Teton county for a large creamery with 1000 pounds daily capacity. Mr Montgomery to manage the plant while Wolf handles the product from residence in Great Falls. There is about 40000 pounds of butter shipped to Great Falls monthly and Burton creamery would keep money in state, aiding local farmers.
Miss Lassie Bentley of Carthage visited Sunday with Mr and Mrs Frank Binford. Tickets go on sale for a temperance lecture by L M Starbuck at West land church on Saturday Oct 10. Hon William R Hough spoke on Sound Money at Shiloh church last Friday to a large attentive audience. A prohibition convention at West land church Saturday Oct 10 features an engaging program. McKinley and Strickland club members and others going to the Greenfield barbecue Tuesday Oct 6 meet at Westland store by 8:30 am. Hon Henry A Johnson addressed a large audience at the township hall on Sound Money and Protection, outdrawing rival C A Robinson’s prior meeting. Carthage Glee Club sang campaign songs to enthusiastic reception.
A London cablegram from the World’s Woman’s Christian Temperance Union transmits Miss Francis Willard’s urgent appeal to ten thousand U S local unions. She urges organized meetings to press Congress to join England in stopping Armenian massacres and protecting Armenian homes, with funds sent to Mrs Helen M Farker at the Woman’s Temple in Chicago.
