Local notes from Knightstown area obituaries and events

Red Headed Dinner Club Formed at Eastern College

Twenty red headed girls at an Eastern college held a dinner they called a red headed dinner. Red sashes, red candles, roses and satin ribbons set the table while menu cards showed white horses. The group formed a red headed club and vowed to stand by the red at any cost.

Thanksgiving Reflections In Walnut Ridge Community

The past year brought blessings and gratitude in Walnut Ridge as Thanksgiving services were held jointly at the M. E. church and Ehet Street Church of Christ with Rev Willoughby and Rev Elwood Scott delivering sermons. Free will offerings were distributed to the needy, music was praised, and local families shared festive dinners including Mr and Mrs Chas Bacon of Hutchinson and Mr and Mrs S L Newsom with several relatives joining in the celebrations.

Two Weddings at Rushville as Sparks Weds Young

The record notes the marriages of Will M Sparks to Miss Della Young at the bride’s home in Rushville on Wednesday November 23. Sparks, a local lawyer and musician, married in a ceremony at 4 p m with both families present and receives good wishes from the Record and many friends.

Mary Anna Clark Marries James Sanford Branson at Home

At noon on November 25 Mary Anna Clark wed James Sanford Branson at Mrs Mary R. Clark s residence. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. Aaron Worth of Greensboro with a small group of friends and neighbors in attendance.

Born last week a girl to Mr and Mrs John Smith. Miss Merley Offutt was seen in our neighborhood this week. Farmers busy gathering corn. School closed Wednesday for rest of week. Mrs J W Greene of Shelbyville visited T B Nelson last week. Tommy Nelson Jr very sick for weeks. J B Tribby's mother returned to Indianapolis. Mr James Branson of Little Blue and Miss Anna Mary Clark wed quietly at Mrs Mary R Clark's home on Thanksgiving. Congratulations to the couple.

Agricultural and Horticultural Society Meeting Agenda 1897

The Agricultural and Horticultural Society holds a meeting at Newson's Hall on November 27 at 1 o'clock. Program includes a paper on community benefit from creameries by Harry E. Stager, a discussion led by J M Pitts, another paper by Mrs Will B Hill, and a winter care of fruits and vegetables talk. Exhibition invite extended to all with fruits flowers or vegetables.

Spices Supplier Praises Agent in Carthage Notice

An 1897 New York letter from Francis H. Leecertr & Co. praises R. E. Henley of Carthage Indiana for handling spices and notes competitors have bought Cream Tartar from them. The letter emphasizes spices are essential for grocery merchants and mentions Leegertr as sole Leggett Pepper agent.
