Charles Debra Gurley born August 22 1821 in Johnson County North Carolina died February 26 1905 at age 33 years 6 months 4 days. He married Nancy Peacock had two children. He later married Emaline Porters in High Point North Carolina. He moved to Indiana in 1865 living mostly there and her death in 1877 occurred in Athens Alabama. He had seven children 3 sons and 4 daughters 23 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He joined the Baptist church then the Society of Friends and remained a faithful member. Funeral at the M E Church Tuesday by Rev Cleaver with interment Walnut Ridge cemetery. He left a life described as a rich heritage of a righteous life.
West and Prof Orr and Obe Coffin with High School and eighth year pupils toured Indianapolis last Friday. Sugar camp opened by Mr Lowe. Children enjoyed the trip and lecture course. Earl Binford praised for bringing in speakers. A young peoples Bible Close hosted at Wm Tome’s home for Rev Levi T Pennington and wife. Several neighbors moved homes and farms. Maggie Brown in poor health.
Rev Morton O Pearson presided at the March 1 wedding in the Friends church Indiana polis uniting Cyrus W Coffin and Miss Eimena Gertrude Swayne. The couple will live at 824 Wright Street while Coffin continues with Bobbs Merrill Co and maintains strong ties to Carthage community.
Joseph Conklin and family of White county Riley McKown and wife of Greenfield and others whose names were not learned appear in a community notice detailing households connected to the event or situation. High School Seniors were hosted by Miss Hazel Hill and Miss Lottie Billman on Walnut Street Friday night. The evening featured lively games and was concluded with elegant refreshments.
