Memorial Day Decoration Day Camp Fire at Newsom's Hall

Memorial Day ceremonies in Carthage featured Decoration Day exercises at Friends cemetery and a camp fire at Newsom's hall. Comrades led the parade with the Gwynneville band, white-dressed girls and flag-bearing boys. At M. K. E. church a large crowd heard Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, a choral hymn, and a moving roll call. Comrade J W Allen delivered an eloquent address, followed by a male quartet song. The night program included humorous speeches, songs, and band tunes, ending with lively camaraderie and memories from veterans of the 5th Cavalry.
