Fire destroys three business houses and a dwelling on Main Street
A Monday night fire consumed three business buildings and a residence on Main and First streets. Dr. Bufkin alerted the town, aiding early evacuation of the Gardner livery barn and nearby properties. The Carthage Record office burned. the wind fanned flames toward the northeast, with water shortages and volunteer help preventing further spread. Losses totaled about $2,200 for the Record, plus other insured and uninsured damages across the town.
