Corn cribs will be found at W. H. Sharer’s, with Henley’s Grocery designated as the sole outlet to purchase H. O. products. Local merchants promote supply and access across town.
Sunday services at the Methodist church drew good attendance with morning and evening sermons. The pastor preached on Life and the parable of the fig tree, followed by the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. Tonight the district elder will give the address. The Sunday School and Epworth League were active, with joint activities, collections, and a focus on youth engagement. The week featured various local notices and social events, including niece and neighbor visits and community announcements.
Joe Goar, who has served the public since spring 1890 at his meat market, has bought a larger business in Tipton and will assume charge on Monday. The move follows a period of steady service and community trust in his business.
Mr Amos Hartzler will go with his successor and serve in the same capacity as before. Mr Goar and his family are Christian and we regret their leaving Carthage. The holder feels he has outgrown his surroundings and is capable of more in business. Mr Jesse Siler succeeds him and is a well known Ripley township citizen, with predicted success.
Citizens were startled last Saturday as Carey Hand planned to ship his furniture stock to Elwood. Hand, linked with Omar Barnard in Carthage, aims to move both stocks to Manilla with Barnard’s retirement expected this summer. The notice warns that locals may lose a trusted supplier and urges sticking to home trade to support town merchants and schools.
