Townwide chatter recalls visits from Hill from Earlham and Staley family greetings. Others travel from Mitchell and Indianapolis to join church events, school duties, and a bountiful mix of trades from harness shops to grocers. Community news spans sermons, recoveries, renovations, and upcoming excursions to Louisville.
President J J Mills of Earlham delivered a baccalaureate sermon to the graduating class of 99 in the Carthage ME church. About six hundred people filled the ME church and nearby rooms. Music by an octet from ME and Friends churches featured Miss Kate Glass soprano and Miss Florence Scott alto, with Harry Stager on bass. The message stressed strength and beauty of character reflecting architecture as incomplete without beauty.
The W C T U hosts a Friday April 28 8 p m gold medal contest at Western Grove church with a program including prayers songs and readings. Contestants listed are Mattie Wiggins Bertha Binford Sassie Lindamood Eva Catt Cora Jessup Milva Butler and a duet performed during the event. Admission 15 cents adults 12 and under 10 cents.
On April 24 the Spiceland Mineral Springs Sanitarium announces it will open its doors to treat rheumatism kidney diseases stomach and bowel troubles and other chronic illnesses following a period of successful cures.
