Girl Born to VanRosendale Family in Carthage
A girl was born on Tuesday to Mr. and Mrs. Lauren VanRosendale of R. R. 1 Carthage. Two cars collided Monday at State Road 3 and Sexton Road, causing about $300 in damage with no injuries. Cirtha Wagner, 81, Route 3, failed to yield and was cited after colliding with Virgil Eugene Aker, 18, Carthage. Wagner’s car damage about $100, Aker’s about $200.

Den 1 met Sept 20 at Richard McNabb home to practice marching and play keep away. Marshmallow roast and cookies followed with all members present. Den 2 met Sept 21 at Virginia Whitfield’s with seven members to rehearse a skit and play Twister and Freeze after a prayer by Gary Osborn. Den 3 met at Mrs. Joseph E. Porter on a Friday afternoon. The Citizenship themed month included flag making and marching practice for the festival.

About twenty local Republicans and workers met at Mrs. Mary Joseph’s home for an organization meeting ahead of the campaign. County chairman John Hughes led discussions on voter registration due by October 10 and a Rush County Caravan tour scheduled for Friday October 7 through Carthage Milroy and Rushville with events and travel times. Enrollment figures show 438 students registered for Carthage Public School with detailed lists of first grade and freshman class teachers and sponsors.

Carthage High School announces a four day 1960 Fall Festival opening Wednesday with a Euchre Party sponsored by the Lions Club at 8 00 p m on the center second floor. Maria Gray, 86, lifelong Rush County resident of Carthage, died Sunday at Rush Memorial Hospital after six months of declining health. Born March 4, 1874, she was the daughter of William and Miranda Nixon Addison. Survived by son Owen Gray of Whittier, California. daughter Mrs. Albert Ray of Carthage. stepson Floyd Gray of Gas City. four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Walnut Ridge Friends Church with burial in the church cemetery. Her husband James O. Gray died in 1931.
