Secure A Permit Before Shipping Pigs To Market
Farmers warned by the Indiana Farm Bureau to obtain permits from the Secretary of Agriculture before shipping pigs to terminal markets. Do not ship until after heavy runs in pens and alleys are cleaned and a permit is received from the commission firm. Without permits, bonus payments may be withheld and pigs with permits are bought for slaughter first while others are held, increasing feed costs and disease risk. About 2,000,000 pigs have already been received toward the 4,000,000 AAA quota.
