Ruby Wins Lake Trout Prize At Grand Marie Contest
Eight entries moved in the Carthage fishing contest but few turned in catches. Mr Ruby won first prize with a 16 lb lake trout 37 inches long. He fished with his wife and Harold Ruby in a two week stay at Grand Marie on Lake Superior. The Ruby families caught several large fish with Donald’s catch around midday at a depth near 100 feet using a 700 ft troll line.

Grand Champion 4H Barrow Sells At State Fair Auction
Barbara Meal exhibitor of the Grand Champion 4H Barrow sold the animal for 6.75 per pound at the 4-H Steer Auction in the Coliseum. Stark and Wetzell Packing Company of Indianapolis purchased the barrow, and Miss Meal is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Meal of Orange Township.

Straw Truck Overturns Near Knightstown-Carthage Road
A truck and trailer carrying straw overturned south of the Twin silo farm on the Knightstown Carthage road around 1 p.m. Thursday. The driver swerved to let another car pass at a narrow section, causing straw to slide to the west side. Neither vehicle was damaged and both continued to haul straw to the Container Corporation plant.

Death of former resident Miss Vivian Deem
Word has been received of the death of former Crystal City resident Miss Vivian Deem who died September 8 in a San Antonio hospital. The Deem family lived west of Carthage on the old River road and moved to Crystal City about 38 years ago. She was a 1907 graduate and is survived by her mother Violat Deem, a sister Mildred, brothers Paul and Dallas, and other relatives in Knightstown.

American Legion Day Celebrated at IS SC Home
The American Legion Day event at the IS SC Home drew a large crowd. Activities included a 10 am grounds tour of the 417 acre facility housing over 500 children of veterans, organ concerts, a noon dinner, and a dedication of a new Wurlitzer organ at Lincoln Hall. Commander Forest and Mrs Beck of Post 316 attended.

James McCowan, 17, driving a 1946 Buick, collided with Theresa Sweetman in a 1947 Oldsmobile at the Merrill Implement Co driveway in Rushville last Saturday morning. Both drivers escaped injury. damages were estimated at 600 dollars for the McCowan car and 350 dollars for the Sweetman vehicle.
