Open House as Carthage High Opens for Term

The Carthage High School opened with 217 total enrolled students and a strong senior class. Principal and board members led devotional exercises while noting 64 in the high school with 10 seniors and 18 juniors.

Deaths: Deh Thornburg of Luzena passes away

Deh Thornburg, a highly esteemed woman in the Ris community, died at her sister Wis Rule's home in Western Grove after a long illness. Born January 1837 in Uharee North Carolina, she was the daughter of Thomas and Sarah and widow of nine children. She had resided in the area since settling there with family.

Lurena Thornburg Life of Service Near Earlham Now Remembered

Luzena Thornburg, born to Friends, educated at Earlham and Spiceland Academy, taught at multiple schools, later worked in dry goods and bookkeeper roles. She served as Henry Hensley Library librarian, known for quiet dignity and loyalty to church. Funeral services held at two Carthage area sites with messages of patience and faith.
