Charles Whitfield Wounded in Action in France

Mrs. Fay Whitfield received a letter from Sgt. Charles Whitfield dated October 11 stating a large wound in his right foot and smaller wounds in his left leg from bursting shrapnel. A War Department telegram dated October 26 confirms wounds and notes hospital care in France. He enlisted March 1943 and has been overseas since August 1944, with training at Camp Robinson, Phillips, Ft. Dix. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Whitfield of this place.

Realty Sales Surge in Rush County Township

Fall Taxes Due Now Says County Treasurer

Rush County Historical Society holds annual meeting in Rushville

Mr and Mrs Henry L Stinger attended the Rush County Historical Society annual meeting at the Museum in Rushville where he urged township chapters to organize data gathering and membership. Donald Stoten Jr winner of the state 4-H scrap book contest will enter the national 4-H contest soon. He also earned a Purdue University scholarship for his 4-H work and has won numerous awards in township, county, and state projects, ranking high among state 4-H clubbers.

Beef Cattle Tour Taken By Farmers

Rush county beef cattle feeders and breeders held their annual fall tour last weekend in the southern part of the county. About 30 people visited 325 cattle including three breeding herds with Purdue extension expert P. T. Brown leading discussions on feed, management, and marketing. Brown noted heavier westbound cattle and a shift toward cow herds as well as a need for Bangs and TB health papers. local producers and commissions from Cincinnati and Indianapolis provided buying and selling guidance.

Final day to file Indiana Gross Income Tax return

October 21 is the deadline for filing the third quarter Indiana Gross Income Tax returns. Director Gilbert K Hewit urges taxpayers to file by the due date to avoid penalties and interest. Miss Ollie Chandler Dies After Lingering Illness

Miss Ollie Chandler age 81 died Monday morning at her nephew D C Copeland’s Charlottesville home after a lingering illness. She served as a governess at the Knightstown ISSC Home for years until three years ago. Funeral services were held at the Copeland home with burial in Shiloh.

Lions Club Box Social and Dance Planned in Carthage

The Carthage Lions Club schedules a box supper and dance November 2 at the Kids Kan Teen in the Tweedy Memorial Center. Boxes bid for prizes, high school orchestra provides music from 9 to 11:30, with cards and tables available. Admission is one box per family or fifty cents per person after 9 pm.

Stunt Night Delights Packed Tweedy Center
