A large crowd attended a Sunday field day trial west of Carthage. Prizes were awarded in two stakes the Shooting Dog and the Puppy. Winners included Taco ma Dr Jewett Hord Shelbyville and Mohawk Freckles Oz Lane Rushville. A two day field trial is planned in Rush county next spring.

Indiana High School Boys State Corn Husker Contest
Twenty four district champions from Indiana Vocational Agriculture Departments will compete at the Grant E. Timmons farm near Williamsport on October 25. The state event, started in 1933 with five schools, now draws over eighty five counties and more than two thousand boys in local contests. The annual Indiana State Cort Husking contest will be held near Kentland in Newton County on October 27. Sixteen contestants compete for a chance to represent Indiana at the National contest on November 3 near Sioux Falls. The program includes a mammoth parade, Corn Queen Janice Williamson, bands, exhibits, and live radio coverage by WLS with entertainers Patsy Montana and the Deurick Sisters.

Fire Destroys Old Pioneer Homestead
The home of Mr. and Mrs. James Moore three miles east of Greenfield on U S 40 was destroyed by fire about 8 00 Wednesday morning. The two story frame house known as the Crider farm was an old landmark. Fire started on the roof from chimney sparks. A passerby notified the family. The house was partially insured.
