Howard Smith, son of Mr and Mrs John Smith of Knightstown, died Wednesday morning at 7 in Honey Creek hospital New Castle from a crowbar accident while helping his father wreck a building. He had been injured previously in a February car crash. Survived by his father and mother, four sisters, two brothers, and a son. Funeral at 3 pm Friday at their home, burial in Glencove cemetery Knightstown.
A dwelling and barn belonging to Lowell Bowles near Sexton were destroyed by fire early Wednesday. Neighbors alerted the family as the barn burned and spread to the house. Loss included an automobile, a truckload of fruit, a pony, a cow, and hay. insurance partly covers the Bowles and Walter Martin’s farm. This marks the third major fire in Rush county since Sunday, the opening day of Fire Prevention Week.
